caring for chinchillas

My three secrets for chinchilla bonding

Every chinchilla is different. and will bond with their owners in a different way. I’m not sure how your chinchilla is, but I will share my best bonding techniques with you.

1. Reading. Smoky loves to be read to. I often pick a children’s book from our bookshelf (Curious George, Miss Flora McFlimsy, etc.) and read out loud to him while sitting by his cage. I try doing this everyday, and he loves it! As soon as I start he leaps into his hammock and cuddles up.

2. Playtime. The more we play together, the closer we are. I don’t mean to let your chinchilla out and go on your phone, actually crawl on the floor, follow, and talk to him. Sometimes I crawl to the other side of the hallway and Smoky chases after me.

3. Spend time. Spend lots of time with your chinchilla. You don’t have to kneel by his cage for an hour, but simply come over and give him a wink a few times during the day.

Smoky taking a dust bath!

I hope this helps you! It certainly helped me and Smoky. Wink your chinchillas “hello” for me and Smoky! 😉
